Kentucky Fighting Challenge
Kentucky Fighting Challenge IX (KFC 9) April 30 2005 Lexington,
KY
Jimmy MC promoter of KFC & Tim Osborne matchmaker have done it again.
KFC has been growing a great deal since its inception. I have been attending
the shows since #4 and have thoroughly enjoyed being along for the ride
and bringing you the action packed coverage that GNP is known for. Not
only did the local news stations attend this show but the KY athletic
commission was in the house as well seated ringside to catch the action
in full force. I want to thank Jimmy & Tim for always taking care
of us when we are in to cover the show, we wish them great success with
the future of KFC.
I want to apologize first off to all of you and the fighters for my lack
of good photos, I will be getting a new camera soon! Team GNP had a fighter
in the main event and Team Oxendine also had a guy fighting in the show.
I always enjoy the events that much more when there are GNP fighters or
local fighters from my area (especially when its Team Ox fighters). With
15 fights it was a great night and with just 2 of them lasting out of
the first round you can bet it was action packed. Lets Get It On!!!
Again I apologize for the lack of photos, and also for the lack of play
by play for the first 2 match ups. I will have a new camera soon and messing
with the camera I was not able to cover first 2 fights.

working for a take down. John tries to swing Jose to the ground but Jose
keeps his balance and its John who ends up going down and Jose is on top
of him immediately working for control. Jose hammers in a few body and
head shots from side control before attempting to mount, John scrambles
so he doesn't get mounted but ends up giving his back to Jose. With Back
control Jose hammers in head and body shots causing John to roll and try
escaping but to no effect. Jose keeps control from behind and keeps a
steady flow of head and body shots going for a bit but as the action slows
the ref stands the fighters to restart the action. John attempts a high
kick and then a few straight jabs, its clear he wants to give back some
of what he received but just as John comes in once more Jose catches him
with a knee form the clinch that connects with Johns head sending him
to the canvas, as Jose rushes in to finish the fight the ref steps in
and stops the fight

to the first flurry of the fight and comes in swinging but Rowe is ready

and rains down a couple solid shots causing Justin to roll, flip over
and scramble to get up but in the end he gives up his back to Rowe who

Roy Miller vs Adrian Collins
RD 1- The fighters touch gloves and its Adrian who connects first with

a slugfest just when Roy connects and rings his bell sending Adrian to
the mat. Roy is on him fast hammering in more shots but just then the
ref stops the fight. Just as the ref stops it Adrian jumps up as if he
was never rocked and the crowd boos a little thinking the fight was stopped

Anthony Liakakos vs Leremy Johnson
RD 1- Anthony shoots from the start and gets the takedown landing in side
control. Leremy tries to escape but in the process of rolling and bucking
up its Anthony ending up getting the full mount. Anthony starts in with
some serous GROUNDNPOUND action and all Leremy can do is try to defend
from the strikes. Leremy pulls out from the mount and gets a half guard
on Anthony but Anthony just pulls his leg through and regains full mount
where he again starts in with the GROUNDNPOUND. Leremy tries again to
get free of the mount and this time ends up giving Anthony his back from
here Anthony gets a cross face head lock kinda hold and just applies the
pressure, Leremy attempts to wiggle free but its too late , Anthony has
a serous hold on Leremy and is not letting go causing Leremy to tap.
Anthony Liakakos, Submission (Suffocation) 1.53 Rd1
Devin Surls vs Dave Mickem
RD 1- As the fighters meet center ring its Dave throwing the first shot
but he misses and its Devin connecting first with a head shot of his own
that rocks Dave and sends him to the mat. Devin is on him quick and grabs
his back trying to sink in a rear naked choke. Dave fends of the choke
but still has Devin on his back and Devin is now swinging in shots to
the head and body while still in back control. Dave tries to roll free
but that just gives Devin the chance to sink the choke once more, this
time Dave stands up and tries falling to his back in hopes of Devin breaking
his grip but its no use, Devin hangs on. Dave finally backs his head out
and is free of the choke but Devin is still in back control with the hooks
locked in tight. Dave continues to try escaping but its not doing much
god, every chance Devin has he is throwing shots to the head and body
from back control position. As Dave rolls once more he ends up getting
mounted where Devin continues to pound in shots to the head. The ref comes
to stop the fight and as he pulls Devin from the top Dave also taps giving
Devin a 2 way win. The ref did stop the fight just a split second before
Dave tapped due to strikes.

Chip Tate vs Chet Chestnut
RD 1- The fighters touch gloves, Chet lands a leg kick and Chip answers
with a straight shot to the head. Chet comes back in and the fighters
clinch, Chet tries for a leg sweep but its Chip who reverses it and ends
up on top as the fighters go to the ground. Chip has side control and
starts raining down some solid shots to the head causing Chet to try and
get out from underneath Chip. The fighters scramble on the ground just
a little before returning to their feet where Chip slaps on a guillotine
while they stand and then leans back trying to submit Chet.. Chip lands
a solid knee and right after that Chet taps to the standing guillotine.
Chip Tate, Submission, .40 Rd1
Rob Nickerson vs Jon Mickem
RD 1- The fighters meet center ring and exchange a few shots before Rob
connects with a solid right sending Jon to the mat. Rob is on him quick
and starts to throw a few more shots but Jon stands and tries to sweep
Rob. Rob stays in control and as the fighters go to the mat its Rob who
ends up on top in the full mount hammering in some shots to the head.
Jon tries to buck Rob from the top but has no success then Jon goes for
a reversal and sinks it putting him on top in Rob's guard. Jon lands a
few shots here and there but Rob has him tied up on the ground and is
restricting his ability to strike. Jon lifts Rob and slams him back to
the mat to try and free himself to strike but Rob just holds on tight
waiting for the ref to stand them up. Jon pulls loose and lets go with
some great shots to the head causing Rob to roll trying to get free, Rob
gets a leg as Jon stands but that just leaves him open for more shots
to the head. Jon goes for a standing rear naked choke and that is the
chance Rob has waited for, Rob comes up and spins into Jon putting both
fighters face to face and its Rob gaining control but ending on his back
as the fighters hit the ground. Rob does a good job of tieing up Jon and
keeping him from unleashing any strikes and after a few seconds of no
activity the ref restarts the fighters standing. ROb jabs and they clinch,
Rob gets a headlock and goes for a hip toss take down that puts Jon on
his back and Rob in his guard. Rob lands a couple shots from the ground
but seeing its not effective Rob stands and on his way up connects with
a solid shot to the head. Jon stands and the fighters start to exchange
a few shots and then end up in a clinch, Jon lands a great knee to the
body and then an awesome outside knee that connects with Robs head sending
him to his back with Jon landing on top in his guard. Jon lands a few
shots but Rob has him tied up pretty good so Rob just stands and starts
pounding in shots from above Rob who is still on his back. Jon jumps back
on Rob and lands in side control but Rob ties him up again and for the
remaining few seconds of rd 1 there is little action.
RD 2 - Both fighters come out swinging but its ROb connecting the most,
the fighters clinch and go to the ropes, Rob lands a knee which causes
Jon to push off of the clinch and attack it again with the striking. Jon
comes in swinging but its Rob connecting and then Jon shoots for a single
leg and gets the take down putting Rob on his back. As Jon comes in he
walks right into a triangle choke, He tries picking Rob up and lifts him
10 inches or so off the mat and then drops him on his head with his full
body weight behind him. Rob holds on and as they roll out of the drop
its Rob still in control and hammering in shots to the head from his back.
Jon is still in a sideways triangle and rolls the wrong way and gives
Rob the chance to reposition his legs and sink the forward triangle back
in. Again Jon picks up Rob who still has the choke sunk in and this time
as Jon drops Rob, Rob rolls keeping the choke on and ends up in a full
mount with triangle still locked onto Jon's arm and neck. From here Rob
has free range to open up with shots to the head and as Jon tries to escape
Rob goes from triangle to an arm bar attempt. This time though its Jon
escaping and moving onto Rob's back trying to sink in a rear naked choke.
Rob just pulls hard and is able to back out which leaves Jon on his back.
Jon throws a up kick while Rob is moving in and connects with Rob's head
(illegal shot) the ref warns Jon and the action keeps going, Rob is now
in Jon's guard and landing shots to the head and body. The fighters roll
into the ropes and the ref decides to stand the fighters and restart the
action. Rob attempts a low kick but Jon catches the leg and uses it to
score a takedown ending up on top in Rob's guard. The fighters are wearing
down as the fight goes on and there is not much action on the ground so
the ref stands the fighters once more. Jon comes in and swings first but
its Rob connecting with a knee to the head, Jon shoots again getting a
single leg but Rob sprawls out and the fighters end up in north / south
position with Rob hammering in shots to the head and body. Jon reverses
control and dumps Rob on his back just seconds before the bell rings and
the fight goes to the judges.

top as the fighters go to the mat. Tony gets a guillotine as Matt comes
in for some GROUNDNPOUND action, Matt is landing some solid shots from
the top but still has his neck locked in to a guillotine. Matt cross faces
Tony and escapes the choke and starts working for position as he hammers
in a few shots to the head and body. Matt steps over to get full mount

Justin Black vs Brad Naylor
RD 1- Brad runs across the ring when the bell sounds and attempts to surprise
Justin but Justin meets him with a straight kick to slow him down. The
fighters clinch from there and while Justin attempts a take down Brad
hammers in a few shots to the head and a couple knees to the body. As
Justin attempts a heel trip its Brad who gains control and ends up on
top. Justin tries to tie Brad up but Brad gets his space and starts raining
in shots to the head from inside Justin's guard. Brad continues to hammer
in shots and then just decides to stand and let Justin back to his feet.
Both fighters come back in swinging and this time Justin slaps on a standing
side choke and leg sweeps Brad to the mat. As the fighters hit the ground
Justin steps over for the full mount and starts to return some of the
shots Brad unleashed earlier in the fight. Brad holds J9ustin close to
keep him from hammering in shots with full power and then from nowhere
BRad sweeps Justin and ends up back on top. Justin reaches down and attempts
a leg lock which causes Brad to just stand up to escape it. The ref stands
Justin and the fighters go at it again, this time its Brad trying for
a head lock hip throw but Justin pulls free and gets behind Brad pulling
him to the mat and ending up on his back with Brad in his guard. Brad
gets off a couple shots but Justin has a good grip on him and is restricting
his room to strike. Brad stands and jumps back on top of Justin this time
getting the mount and more room to strike. Justin rolls to his knees and
gives up his back to Brad who lands a couple shots and tries for a rear
naked choke. As Brad pulls back to finish the choke off Justin turns reverses
the position and puts Brad on his back. Justin lands a few shots but its
not long before Justin attempts another leg lock, Brad stands out of it
and the fighters are back to their feet and go at in once more. Justin
rushes in and both fighters connect on the ropes a few times before separating
and pairing off center ring once more. Brad has his hands down like he
is gassing and as Justin comes in they clinch on the ropes, Brad lands
a couple knees to the body and Justin just pushes off to make space. Brad
puts his hands on his knees and bends over like he is very tired and Justin
has his hands to his side as well, just as both fighters start to get
it going again the bell sounds ending rd 1
RD 2- Justin comes out throwing kicks to the legs and body, Brad connects
with a solid jab and follows it up with about 3 looping punches that connect
and cause Justin to shoot driving Brad to the mat. In Brad's guard Justin
tries to gain the upper hand to let the punches fly but Brad has arm control
and is the only one connecting right now. Justin gets off a few shots
to the head but due to lack of action the ref restarts the fight standing.
Justin comes back in and clinches just as Brad misses with a looping right,
Justin lands a few knees to the body and legs. Brad answers a couple shots
but its Justin landing most of them. Brad tries to spin out but Just goes
for the back and jumps up on Brad who then rolls to try and escape, the
fighters end up with Justin on the bottom with back control over Brad
and attempts a rear naked choke. As Brad tries to escape he rolls to his
back putting Justin on top in full mount, as Brad tries to push off on
Justin's face, Justin grabs the arm and swings into a classic arm bar
winning by submission.

Erick Jordan vs Tomoslav Popovic
RD 1- Erick comes charging across the ring bent low and looking like a
cat waiting to pounce, the fighters circle each other then Erick charges
in with a flying drop kick type move connecting on the chest. The fighters
clinch from there and its Erick getting the takedown. After the fighters
scramble on the mat for control its Erick landing in top position with
side control. Landing shots to the head and knees to the body Erick is
in total control of the ground fight and seems to be looking for a submission.
Popovic has Erick held close to restrict the striking room but Erick is
still landing a few shots and staying busy. Erick steps over and gets
the full mount and Popovic rolls to escape but only ends up giving Erick
his back, Erick is still landing shots to the head as Popovic continues
to try and escape the mount. Popovic escapes the mount and gets half guard
but looses it quick as Erick pulls side mount. From there its just seconds
before Erick gets a side choke causing Popovic to tap.
Erick Jordan, Submission, 2.05 Rd1
Jake Whitfield vs Robert Baker
RD 1- The fighters touch gloves and feel each other out with a few jabs.
Jake lands a leg kick and then the fighters clinch and start exchanging
shots from the clinch working for control. Jake is connecting with knees
to the body and legs, Robert is answering a few of them but its Jake landing
the majority of the shots. Robert grabs a headlock and attempts a hip
throw but Jake keeps his balance and as the fighters go down its Jake
ending up on top in an open guard. Jake hammers in a couple shots to the
head and Robert tries to pull him in close to take away from Jake's striking
distance. Jake lands a couple elbows to the head as Robert still tries
to defend from the bottom. Robert turns and grabs a leg but Jake sprawls
out and locks in a guillotine choke, Jake falls back to sink the choke
and Robert rolls to his back, Jake gets the leverage he was looking for
and taps Robert retaining his championship and winning the main event.
