Kentucky Fighting Challenge VII Lexington Ky. Nov 13th 2004

Ground N Pound has been covering KFC for its last 4 events and I have been impressed every time out. Tim Osborne does a great job promoting the show, they have an awesome base of fighters with new talent showing up with each new event. The night kicked off with a set of 14 year old boys competing in a kick boxing match and to see them go at it you would have thought they had been in the ring before. With all fights but 2 ending in the first round and the 2 ending in judges decision this was an awesome night of fights.

Lets get into the action now!!!

Fight # 1
Luke King vs Anthony Fisher (14 year old kick boxers)
Fisher strikes first but King quickly returns with a kick to the body and a flurry of punches. Both fighters move around a bit throwing kicks and feeling each other out. King unleashes a blast of punches that drives Fisher into the ropes and rocks him, the ref steps in and gives Fisher a standing 5 count and the fight resumes. Fisher comes back with a front kick to the body but King can smell the victory already and pulls out all the stops firing away with lefts and rights & then into the clinch were King delivers a knee and a front kick of his own. The fighters circle looking for their chance but its King who jumps in and starts letting some serious leather fly, he connects several times while backing Fisher up into the corner where he delivers the final straight right that rocks Fisher causing the ref to stop the fight.

Fight # 2
Gavin Wuerth vs Gene Click
Both fighters connect at the same time, Gavin with a right cross and Gene with a leg kick, Gene tries for a takedown, this starts off a struggle in the clinch which ends on the ropes. After a few knees exchanged Gene drops for a double leg and tries once more for the takedown but Gavin is to steady on his feet and the fighters are still on the ropes. Gene fires off a real solid knee to the head and attempts to follow it up with a roundhouse kick to the head but ends up kicking too high and falling backwards. Gavin rushes in and starts unloading lefts and rights while Gene scrambles to his feet and again clinches looking for a takedown. G9avin lands a few knees while cinching in the Guillotine and then just applies the pressure in a standing position and gets the tap out.

Fight # 3
Kenny Jerrell vs Jonathan Melander
Kenny is a KFC Hometown guy and the crowd erupted when he came out. Jonathan swings first but its Kenny who connects first with a looping left that starts a barrage of punches to the head and eventually causes Jonathan to go down. Kenny is on him quick delivering more rights and lefts to the head when Jonathan just stands back up and tries to clinch to stop Kenny's attack. Jonathan has no luck with it as kenny just pushes back and unloads again. Jonathan starts getting into the game as his next clinch works out and he starts bringing the knees in the clinch and delivering some strikes to the head and body. The fighters work the clinch for a min exchanging knees and looking for the upper hand when Jonathan connects with a straight right that makes Kenny take a step back and then they are back into the clinch where Jonathan starts landing some good knees to the body. Kenny tries for a takedown but Jonathan has to much control and Kenny just decides to push off with a knee and then unload more of the rights and lefts he connected with early on. Jonathan clinches again and connects with a couple knees while Kenny works for control in the clinch and takes Jonathan down. Kenny drops a couple shots to the head and then both fighters are back to their feet. Both fighters connect with a shot or two as they look for their chance , Jonathan connects with a right and its easy to see Kenny give him a big smile. From their its back to the clinch where both fighters connect a few times while trying to gain control. Kenny pushes off and connects with a good right but Jonathan gives one back that takes the fighters back to the clinch. Kenny gets a leg sweep and takes Jonathan down.
