Gladiator Fighting Championships 8 - Sept 16, 2006 - Morehead, KY

GFC unleashed the Mayhem in Morehead to a packed house. Thanks to all the fans who came out to support the show and to the fighters with the balls to step in the ring. Congratulations to all the fighters on a great event and to GFC Fighter Of The Night Mark Maynard & GNP Fighter Of The Night Mike Wilks. Be sure to check the forums here on GROUNDnPOUND and the GFC website for info on the upcoming show in Pikeville, KY on Oct 14th.

Tony Fisher vs Donny Greathouse (Grappling Match)
ROUND 1: The fighters meet center ring and clinch up, Donny tries to get the fight to the ground but it is Tony who ends up on top and the fighters begin working for con troll. Tony starts working to con troll. Donny's arm and Donny sweeps putting Tony on his back as the fighters work themselves into the ropes, the ref moves them back center ring and continues the action. The fighters continue working for con troll. and as Donny puts a forearm across Tony's neck for a choke Tony pushes it to the side and locks in a front arm and neck choke from the his back and begins cranking away. In seconds Donny is forced to tap giving Tony the submission victory.

Aaron York vs Anthony Rice
ROUND 1: Anthony moves in at the bell and Aaron tags him with a shot to the head, the fighters begin to circle and Aaron lands another that drops Anthony to his knees for a split second. Anthony pops back up and the fighters clinch, Aaron starts driving for a take down but Anthony sprawls out defending. The fighters continue working for con troll. and after a few seconds Aaron is able to pick Anthony up and slam him to the mat but Anthony holds on tight and as they go down Anthony rolls to top position and hammers in a few shots to the body. Anthony lands several more shots to the body and a few to the head as Aaron holds on tight to prevent too much damage. Aaron attempts to sweep Anthony but it fails and Anthony lands a couple solid shots to the head causing Aaron to roll giving up his back. Anthony lands another shot to the head and then Aaron turns into him and puts him on his back reversing con troll., the fighters work into the ropes and the ref moves them center ring, Aaron starts out in side mount and then steps over to full mount. The fighters work back into the ropes again and the ref turns the fighters, Anthony then sweeps Aaron reversing position yet again, Anthony throws a couple shots to the head and Aaron turns giving up his back again just as the bell sounds ending the round. Anthony rolls to his back in pain and is not able to continue the bout due to a broken toe giving Aaron the TKO victory.

Keith Noe vs Steve Scott (Boxing)
ROUND 1: The fighters meet center ring, Steve throws a few shots and then Keith answers back with a single shot that drops Steve to the mat, but Steve is able to clear the count and the bout continues. Keith moves in landing a few more shots to the head and Steve answers back with a few as the fighters work their way around the ring. Steve keeps moving forward throwing shots but most get blocked as Keith keeps his guard up,Keith lands more solid shots as he takes his time and picks them carefully as they finish out round 1.
ROUND 2: Steve comes out throwing a couple jabs and then backs Keith into a corner and throws several shots to the body but some are blocked and Keith then circles out of the corner and the fighters circle. Steve starts moving forward swinging but again eats a big shot on the chin that spins him around and drops him to the mat but again Steve is able to clear the 10 count and the fight continues. Keith hammers in several more shots to the head as the fight continues looking to finish the bout but Steve blocks a few and works off the ropes and throws a few shots to the body and then clinches up and throws a few more while holding down Keith's head in a little dirty boxing technique. The ref separates the fighters and they begin to circle, Steve lands a couple shots to the head and a few to the body, Keith circles off the ropes and lands a solid shot to the head and the fighters circle once again. The fighters finish out the round exchanging a few shots to the head and body but nothing causing to much damage and they head in to the final round.
ROUND 3: The fighters start to circle, Keith lands a shot to the head and Steve answers back with a couple head shots and backs Keith into the corner. Keith returns a head shot and circles off and the fighters exchange a few body shots. Keith lands a couple jabs to the head and Steve moves in to clinch and throws a couple uppercuts before the ref separates the fighters. Steve keeps moving forward throwing shots to the head and body, some get blocked and some get through but Keith is still picking his shots and landing most of what he throws as he starts connecting with a few solid shots as he backs away from Steve's looping shots. Steve closes in landing several shots to the body and backs Keith into the corner swinging more body shots and a couple to the head as the bell sounds and sends the fight to the judges.

Mike Preece vs Larry Noble
ROUND 1: The fighters touch gloves and exchanged a shot to the head before clinching up, Mike then takes the fight to the ground ending in half guard and landing a few shots to the head and body before stepping up to full mount. Mike then postures up and begins hammering in shots to the head until Larry turns and gives up his back. Mike works to get his hooks in and then slaps on a rear naked choke and rolls to his back cranking away forcing Larry to tap giving Mike the submission victory.

Greg Maynard vs Josh Booth
ROUND 1: The fighters start out circling and exchanging a few shots to the head, Greg seems to be the more experienced as he bobs and weaves while picking his shots, Josh is swinging a bit more but his shots are wild and not as accurate. Josh then steps in swinging and eats a shot to the chin that drops him to his knees but is able to clear the 10 count and the fight resumes. Greg closes in landing a couple shots to the head that leads into a exchange of several shots from each fighter. The fighters separate and Greg comes back in landing a few shots to the head and driving Josh back into the corner but Josh circles out and creates some space. Greg continues moving in to pick Josh apart, Josh answers back with a few shots in the exchanges but most are wild shots that miss or just graze Greg as they finish out the round.
ROUND 2: The fighters touch gloves and circle, Greg throws out a few jabs and then steps in landing one on the chin, Josh answers back connecting with a head shot and the fighters continue to circle. Greg moves back in landing several head shots backing Josh up against the ropes, Josh swings to get free and they circle a bit more, the fighters exchange a couple more shots and then Greg moves in landing a few solid shots causing Josh to back against the ropes and turn away. Greg continues hammering in shots to the head until the ref moves in to stop the fight giving Greg the TKO victory.

Mike Wilks vs Nathan Hardening
ROUND 1: The fighters touch gloves and then come together to slug it out with Nathan landing a couple solid shots and Mike answering back before the clinch and begin working for con troll. The fighters go to the ground with Nathan landing on top and stepping over to full mount, Mike holds him in close to prevent any striking and after a few seconds is able to roll Nathan to his back reversing position. Mike lands a few shots to the body and Nathan attempts to sweep and roll Mike to his back but Mike is able to stay in con troll. and put Nathan on his back again. Nathan has Mike held in close so Mike stands to break his hold, Nathan then grabs a leg to put Mike on his back but Mike falls back into his guard and regains the top position. Mike lands a couple elbows to the head but Nathan has him held in close to prevent striking, Mike then grabs an arm and begins working a kimura but Nathan uses that as a chance to roll Mike to his back reversing position and then landing a few shots to the head. Mike bucks up and again reverses con troll. putting Nathan on his back and a great show of ground skill from both fighters as the round nears the end. Mike lands a couple elbows and Nathan attempts to roll him once again but Mike stays in con troll. on top, Nathan throws a few shots to the body and then holds Mike in close as the bell sounds ending the round.
ROUND 2: The fighters touch gloves and Mike comes out swinging landing a few shots to the head and body as he backs Nathan up, Nathan answers back and the fighters slug it out toe to toe each landing some solid looping punches to the head and body before stepping back to pause for a second. Nathan throws a kick and the fighters clinch up Nathan locks a guillotine and falls to the ground but Mike rolls and is able to get to the top position in full mount and hammer in a few elbows to the head. Nathan pulls him in close to prevent striking but Mike is able to posture back up and land several shots to the head before Nathan can again pull him back in close. Mike uses several short shoulder slams to try and get free of Nathan's grip and is eventually able to get enough space to rain down a few more elbows to the head. The fighters work into the ropes and the ref turns them around, Mike postures up and lands a few shots to the head and then a few elbows before Nathan can pull him in close to reduce the strikes, a few seconds later the bell sounds ending the round.
ROUND 3: The fighters touch gloves and begin to circle, Nathan lands a shot to the head as Mike lands a leg kick, Mike throws a couple more leg kicks and the fighters continue to circle with each looking a bit tired. Nathan lands a shot to the head and the fighters continue to circle, Mike moves in to clinch and Nathan locks in a guillotine and begins cranking away with his back against the ropes. After a couple seconds Nathan releases the choke and hammers in a couple shots to the body and a knee before Mike spins him off the ropes and takes him to the mat. Nathan holds him in close and after a couple seconds Mike starts to stand and grabs a leg falling back and attempting a heel hook. After a couple seconds Nathan sits up to throw a couple shots to the head and then grabs a leg and the fighters begin the battle of the leg locks but neither is able to score the submission and after a few seconds the ref moves in to separate and stand the fighters to resume the action. Nathan moves in landing a few shots to the head, Mike answers back with one and backs away and the fighters begin to circle just as the bell sounds and sends the fight to the judges.

Josh Mays vs Angelo Magiello
ROUND 1: Josh comes out swinging and lands a couple shots to the head, Angelo drops down to his knees either from the shots or in an attempt to shoot but Josh drops in and locks in a guillotine choke, Angelo attempts to drive to get the fight to the ground but Josh holds on and when the fight goes to the ground Josh still has the choke locked in and pulls guard. After a few seconds Angelo is able to get to his feet but Josh stays in con troll. and forces him back to his knees, hammers in a few shots to the head and locks the choke back in. Angelo again gets to his feet but Josh keeps working the choke and takes Angelo back to his knees where he cranks the choke causing Angelo to tap giving Josh the submission victory.

Mark Maynard vs Jason Lewis
ROUND 1: Mark rushes across the ring, lands a flying knee and knocks out Jason with a single shot, Jason attempts to get to his feet and falls back to the mat giving Mark the KO victory in under 5 seconds. Mark was awarded the GFC Fighter Of The Night Award.

Emanur Hardening vs Brandon Smith
ROUND 1: Emanur rushes across the ring and lands a knee to the body and the fighters exchange several shots before Emanur picks Brandon up and takes the fight to the ground. The fighters work for con troll. on the ground ending with the fighters on their knees and Emanur cranking away on a guillotine choke, seconds later Brandon is forced to tap giving Emanur the submission victory.

Brandon Hall vs Jon Fannin
ROUND 1: The fighters circle, Brandon throws a punch and Jon ducks under but Brandon moves in and locks in a guillotine, after a couple seconds Brandon jumps up and pulls guard taking the fight to the ground. Jon throws several shots to the body trying to escape but in the end is forced to tap giving Brandon the submission victory.

Billy Lemaster vs Matt Brown
ROUND 1: The fighters come together center ring and clinch up, Billy takes the fight to the ground ending in full mount against the ropes where he hammers in several shots to the body and then postures up and begins raining down solid shots to the head until the ref steps in to stop the fight giving Billy the TKO victory.

Brandon Rogers vs Eric Fields
ROUND 1: The fighters circle, Brandon moves in landing a shot to the head and the fighters clinch and begin working for con troll. Brandon takes Eric to the ground and steps over to full mount and begins hammering in shots to the head causing Eric to turn giving up his back. Brandon takes his back and sinks in his hooks before locking in a rear naked choke and falling back, Brandon cranks the choke and in seconds Eric is forced to tap giving Brandon the submission victory.

Ricky Conley vs Ryan Mcnabb
ROUND 1: Ricky comes across with a side kick to the body, the fighters exchange a shot to the head and then clinch working for con troll. Ryan goes to the mat as he tries to pull Ricky down but Ricky stays on his feet and as Ryan falls to his knees Ricky jumps on his back and locks in a rear naked choke. Ryan tries to get to his feet but falls back to the mat, seconds later Ryan is forced to tap giving Ricky the submission victory.

ROUND 1: Ricky closes in and swings, Alex ducks under and shoots for a take down and the fighters begin working for con troll. as Ricky sprawls out the fighters go to their knees. Ricky throws a couple shots to the body and then works in a guillotine choke, seconds later Alex is forced to tap giving Ricky the submission victory.

Thomas McDavid vs Albert Kidd
ROUND 1: Albert swings but it falls way short and then comes in with a front kick, Thomas comes in to throw a punch just as Albert throws a kick and his feet come out from under him and he falls to the mat, Thomas jumps on him and begins hammering in shots to the head until the ref steps in to stop the fight once Albert taps to the strikes giving Thomas the TKO victory.

Adam Mays vs Kenny Kretzer
ROUND 1: The fighters touch gloves and begin to circle, Kenny throws a punch and Adam ducks under and shoots in and the fighters start working for con troll. in the clinch. Adam gets the fight to the ground landing in Kenny's guard and begins hammering in shots to the body. Kenny then holds him in close to prevent the striking and after several seconds Kenny tries to get to his feet but Adam puts him back on the mat and moves into side con troll. Adam then lands four solid knees to the body with the last forcing Kenny to tap giving Adam the TKO victory.

Sean Beller vs Josh Pelfry
ROUND 1: Josh comes in with a front kick and then the fighters exchange a couple shots before clinching up. Josh then takes the fight to the ground and as they work for con troll. Sean rolls Josh to his back reversing con troll. but its short lived as Josh rolls Sean to his back again and lands a couple shots to the head. Sean then throws his legs up and starts to work an arm bar but Josh pushes through and works back into his guard, Sean holds him in close to prevent the striking but each is able to get off a few light shots to the head as they continue working for con troll. Sean tries for a second arm bar but Josh is able to roll free and resume top position on the ground but is still held in close to limit his striking. JOsh postures up and lands a couple shots to the head but then Sean pulls him in close and slaps on a triangle, Josh stands to try and get free of the choke but falls back to his knees and seconds later is forced to tap giving Sean the submission victory.
