GROUNDNPOUND EVENT COVERAGE GFC III
Gladiator Fighting Championships Sept 10, 2005

The card looked great with Robert Baker there to represent Team GNP & Team Fast and 3 of the guys from Team Oxendine There were several other names on the card that stood out as well and I was set for a great show to take place. First off I want to thank Robert Baker, he is a great guy and we are very proud to have him as part of Team GNP. Next to the Trotter's for putting on a great show and helping the sport grow in our area. Last but not least the fighters and the fans for making it all happen. It was a great show with a good variety of finishes. Special shout out to Roger Worley, he went down due to a broken leg just seconds after the fight started and through all the pulling and poking the EMS had to do to wheel him out he went out like a true champion. Watching it all take place had me limping from the pain I could only imagine he was going through. Hope to see you back in the ring. Now lets get into the action.

Eddie Trotter vs. Gerald Chaney (Boxing)
Gerald gave up a few pounds in this one but made up for it with heart. Eddie would drive him back to the ropes or in a corner and pound on him a bit making Gerald have to fight off the ropes. Both fighters were connecting with some good shots but in the end it was Eddie getting the knockout in round 3
Eddie Trotter vs. Gerald Chaney ..............Trotter RND 3 KO

Sean Beller vs. Baccus Brown (Boxing)
Another great match up but this one went to the judges. Sean scored most of the strikes and Brown didn't let up for a min. Sean slipped a few times throughout the match but stayed in control pushing the fight for 2 rounds. Brown got tagged a few times sending him to the mat but would not stay down and was doing his best to avoid the KO and finish the fight sending it to the judges.
Sean Beller vs. Baccus Brown ..................Beller Unanimous Dec

Danny Kiser Vs. Scott Huff
ROUND 1: I thought this was going to end quick, Danny shots in and gets caught in a gillie. Scott sinks it in deep and Danny's head & face turn blood red and it was easy to see the choke was working. Danny is somehow able to breath and it seems to turn into a standoff so the ref stands them. Danny shoots again and gets caught in a choke on the other side but Scott cant seem to finish it off and the ref stands them once more. Danny shoots again and after a few seconds working for the takedown it comes and the fight goes to the ground but is unable to advance his position before the bell rings ending round 1
ROUND 2: Scott comes out and throws a leg kick, Danny shoots and they go to the ground where after a few seconds Scott gains control and sinks in the rear naked choke gaining the victory.
Danny Kiser Vs. Scott Huff ......................Huff RND 2 RNC

Mathew Yearly vs. Jeremiah Doderer
Jeremiah shoots and Matthew pulls guard taking it to the mat. In just seconds Mathew goes for a triangle and switches to an arm bar and taps out Jeremiah getting the win.
Mathew Yearly vs. Jeremiah Doderer.......Yearly RND 1 Arm bar

Andy Chaffins vs. Ian Boxhorn
The fighters clinch and go to the ropes, Ian sinks in a gillie. ans Andy tries to pick him up to dump him to the mat but Ian grabs guard and the fighters go down with the choke still intact. Andy tries to head out of the ring trying to escape the choke getting the fighters in the ropes causing a break and restart on the ground. Ian immediately works in an arm bar and Andy stands trying to slam Ian off but Ian hangs on and as Andy goes back to the mat Ian locks it in tight gaining the victory by submission.
Andy Chaffins vs. Ian Boxhorn................Boxhorn RND 1 Arm bar

Joey Howard vs. Roger Worley
I'm not sure if it was a kick to the hip or just the way he landed on it but just seconds after the bell Roger threw a leg kick and Joey connected with a head shot, Roger went to the ground and grabbed his leg and motioned to the ref to stop the fight. It was reported to me that it was the kick but even after looking at the video I still don't see exactly when it happened. Get well Roger.
Joey Howard vs. Roger Worley...............Howard RND 1 Injury (Worley broke his leg)

James Patrick vs. Dustin Walen
The fighters meet center ring and begin to slug it out. Both land a few shots to the head and a couple of kicks to the body. Dustin starts a flurry of shots that drives James back into a corner where he tries to shoot to escape but is immediately caught in a gillie., Dustin cranks back and in a second James taps from a standing choke.
James Patrick vs. Dustin Walen..............Walen RND 1 Standing Choke

BJ Hickson vs. Andrew Earles
BJ Hickson vs. Andrew Earles.................. DRAW

Glen May vs. David Smith
The fight starts a little slow with both guys felling out the fight a bit but as soon as they connected the fight went to the ground and Glen gained control from the top and started in with some GROUNDNPOUND. David held in close but Glen used that to move the fight to the center of the ring. Glen pushed off and continued the GROUNDNPOUND causing David to tap out due to strikes.
Glen May vs. David Smith......................May RND 1 Tapout to Strikes

Travis White vs. Jesse Bates
Travis rushes in with a flying kick and misses, Jesse tees off and beats him to the mat. Jesse pounds on him for a few seconds and Travis tries to roll free but gets caught in a rear naked choke. Travis tries to get free and even makes it to his feet but that's the exact leverage Jesse needed because as soon as he stands, Travis taps out to the RNC.
Travis White vs. Jesse Bates ..................Bates RND 1 Standing Choke

Jason Commer vs. Derrick Mollet
ROUND 1: The fight went to the ground immediately and stayed there for the entire round. Jason was working submission. after submission. and Derrick was defending the subs while working for control to start the GROUNDNPOUND. Just as the ref started to stand the fighters the bell rang and ended a non stop round of action.
ROUND 2: Jason starts it off with a kick and the clinch and start working for control. Derrick pushes off a couple times and swings wild but misses. Jason takes Derrick down from the clinch and gets caught in a gillie. After a few seconds Jason pops his head out and Derrick immediately starts to roll from his back and Jason takes his back wrapping his legs in and starting to pound from behind. Derrick covers up to avoid the strikes and Jason slaps on a rear naked choke that is tight causing Derrick to tap immediately giving Jason the victory.
Jason Commer vs. Derrick Mollet ............Coomer RND 2 RNC

Josh Stepp vs. Adam Mays
This fight went to the ground from the start and Josh controlled most of the fight throughout the round. When it does slow down enough for the ref to stand the fighters the round ends and the go back at it in round 2. After a short clinch the fight goes back to the ground and Josh again ends up in control of the ground game. Adam is able to reverse it for a second and attempt a front choke but Josh pulls free and is back in control on the ground finishing round 2. Once more they clinch it up and go to the ground. Josh controls the fight and they head into the ropes so have to be restarted in the center. The fight finishes on the ground with Josh still in control and sending the fight to the judges.
Josh Stepp vs. Adam Mays.....................Stepp Dec.

Steven Thomson vs. Robert baker
Team GNP was being represented in this one and after the night of fights we had experienced I was pumped up for this one.
Robert throws a kick and the fighters clinch, Robert throws Steven to the mat and the fighters spin out through the ropes and have to be restarted. Robert comes in swinging and they clinch again, Robert lands a high knee to the head from the clinch and when he tries for another Steven grabs the leg and takes Robert to the ground. Robert immediately goes for a triangle but Steven pulls out, Robert then grabs a leg and starts in for a heel hook. After a few seconds Steven is able to pull free and tees off with shots from above as Robert defends from his back. Robert pulls him in and they work for control on the ground, after a little time goes by Steven pulls up and throws a few strikes before Robert takes the leg again and sinks in a tight heel hook sending Steven to the mat tapping out.
CONGRATS ROBERT!
Steven Thomson vs. Robert baker...........Baker RND 1 Heel Hook

Stonnie Hail vs. Josh Holbrook
This was the final fight and the 3rd of the Team Ox guys competing tonight. The first 2 won and Stonnie from Team Ox was who I was picking to win this one.
Josh lands first and then they clinch and go to the ground with Stonnie on his back. Stonnie reverses and the fighters work back to their feet. Stonnie takes the fight back down and takes control from the top. Josh is holding him close but Stonnie lands a few shots here and there until he can pull free and unleash the GROUNDNPOUND. Josh tries to roll and gives up his back, Stonnie sinks in a rear naked choke and in seconds Josh taps out and Stonnie gets the 3rd victory for Team Oxendine ending a great night of action.
Stonnie Hail vs. Josh Holbrook................Hail RND 1 RNC
