Gladiator Fighting Championship
Gladiator Fighting Championship April 23rd 2005 Pikeville, KY

The Trotter brothers are promoting some great events in the Kentucky area. This is the second show I have made it to and it was an awesome event. GROUNDNPOUND didn't have any fighters in this event but Team Oxendine had 3 fighters competing and I also found out that Billy Ayash was on the card. I was not only there to cover the event but also was there as a Direct Strike rep selling gear at the show so I had my hands full but I always travel with my wife and kids when its possible so it was time to break some child labor laws HAHA!

The event started with a boxing match and there was 14 other MMA fights after that. I didn't get as many pictures as I usually do but I still got a few nice ones. I want to thank Edie and Anthony Trotter as well as Tim Osborne and the rest of those who helped to put on a great event. And even though I was pulled over and ticketed for "faulty headlights" I am still looking forward to heading back up that way for the next show. Enough of my rambling lets hit the action.

KO OF THE NIGHT Jason Coomer
SUB OF THE NIGHT Brendon Bohannon
FIGHT OF THE NIGHT Jay Page vs Anthony Terry

Gerald Chaney vs Grant Hardwick

RD 1 - Both fighters came out swinging after touching gloves. This was a boxing match and the fighters wore headgear but they were swinging for the fences. Chaney kept hammering in some heavy uppercuts from the clinch while Grant was landing looping rights and lefts. Chaney steps in mid round and gets rocked by a wide left and goes staggering back but stays on his feet. Grant lands a few more shots but Chaney recovers and defends the shots finishing rd 1
RD 2 - The fighters meet center ring and start exchanging blows once more. Both guys are giving it their all and putting on a great warm up fight for the crowd. Grant seems to be landing a few more but Chaney is more aggressive and keeps bringing it to Grant. The fighters are slowing down as the fight goes on but the shots are still landing with power and send round 2 to the judges.
RD 3 - Both fighters put on a great fight, the crowd was primed and ready for the rest of the event to take place. Chaney gave as much as he got but in the end it was Grant getting the decision and winning the fight - Hardwick rd 3 JD

Benji Clere vs JJ Johnson

RD 1 - The bell rings the fighters circle and Benji shoots, picks up JJ and slams him down to the mat. The crowd roars and JJ tries to wrap up Benji and avoid the GROUNDNPOUND. Benji pulls free and hammers in a couple of shots and then attempts a guillotine choke. JJ scrambles to get free and soon rolls to his back giving up side mount where Benji starts to slam some shots to the head. JJ tries to tie him up and stop the barrage of punches but Benji still manages to get several off from time to time. As JJ attempts to get free he zigs when he should have zagged and Benji gets the full mount and starts raining in the GNP. JJ covers up enough to survive the round but Benji finishes in the full mount pounding in shots to the head.
RD 2 - The fighters circle again and Benji shoots looking for that huge slam again but this time JJ is ready and catches Benji in a guillotine. The fighters go down to their knees and JJ adjust the choke a little before pulling guard and falling to his back. In just seconds Benji taps and JJ gets the win. - Johnson rd 2 sub

Dewey Olinger vs Trey Yinger

RD 1 - Trey throws the first shot and misses, Dewey shoots but is caught in a partial guillotine. Trey stumbles back while trying to sink in the choke and he falls back with Dewey landing in a mount. Trey starts to move around to get free but in the end its Dewey staying in control landing several shots to the head. Dewey continues to control the ground game landing shots to the head and body and after a minute or so Trey bucks up enough to finally get free of the mount and get back to his feet. Trey immediately steps into a standing guillotine but Dewey cant seem to get it locked in and Trey pulls free and comes out swinging in the clinch. Dewey pushes off but Trey comes back in landing some looping shots to the head. Dewey clinches but Trey keeps swinging, finally the fighters break and as Dewey comes back in he clinches, gets hit a few more times by Trey and the bell rings ending rd 1.
RD 2 - Dewey rushes in after the bell and forces Trey into the corner and then Dewey starts to unload body and head shots. Dewey attempts a scoop slam but Trey escapes it and starts in with a few shots of his own. Trey is firing off most of the shots in rd 2 and Dewey just seems to be hanging on. Dewey is looking for the takedown every time they clinch but Trey just pushes off and comes back in unloading knees and shots to the head.Trey continues to control the round but both fighters are slowing down as the fight goes on, Trey finishes rd 2 with Dewey backed in the corner and hammering shots to the head and body.
RD 3 - Trey comes in charging across the ring and Dewey catches him in a clinch where he lands a few solid knees. Trey turns away from the clinch and gives his back to Dewey but dewey doesn't take advantage of it and just kind of follows Trey into the corner and lands a shot to the head. Trey immediately starts firing back with some head shots of his own as well as some knees to the body. Both fighters are starting to gas a little late in the third rd and while Trey tries a leg sweep Dewey reverses and ends up on top in side control. Dewey then steps over to full mount and starts hammering in shots to the head right as the bell sounds ending the fight and sending it to the judges. - Olinger rd 3 UD

Randy Lemons vs Jason Sparkman

RD 1 - ( My camera is acting strange and wont play this fight, what I do remember is it being a action packed fight that was mostly controlled by Sparkman. Ill keep working with the video and hope to add this fight later. )
RD 2 -
RD 3 -Sparkman rd 3 UD

Josh Robinson vs Stonnie "The Secret Weapon" Hail

RD 1 - Both fighters meet in the center of the ring, Stonnie throwing punches and Josh landing a couple leg licks. Josh then shoots but is caught by Stonnie , Stonnie sprawls out and starts raining in shots to the ribcage. Josh stands back up but is still caught in a partial guillotine, then Josh goes for a single leg takedown and opens himself up for Stonnie to clamp on the choke and fall back with Josh in his guard. It only takes seconds for Josh to tap giving "The Secret Weapon" his first win in KY. - Stonnie rd 1 sub

Scott Huff vs John Miller

RD 1 - The fighters start off by feeling out with jabs and leg kicks, Miller shoots for a takedown and Scott defends with a front choke but the fighters go down with Miller on top but still in risk of being choked out. After a few seconds Miller pulls free pushes off and starts hammering in shots to the head from a open guard. Scott escapes his back but is caught in a guillotine by Miller and doesn't get past getting to his knees. Miller throws a few body shots and Scott attempts to stand and take Miller down but its Miller sending Scott back to the mat on his knees, Miller sprawls out and tightens the choke and continues controlling the fight on the ground. Scott rolls and flips over to escape the guillotine but Miller holds on and goes with it staying in control and still working the choke. Scott is defending the choke and Miller can not seem to get the sub so after a few seconds of no action the ref stands the fighters back up. Scott charges in rushing Miller into the corner, Scott then starts with some powering body shots and knees. Miller looks rocked a few times but stays on his feet, he isn't exchanging but he is doing his best to defend from the shots Scott has unleashed. Scott is relentless with his attack that lasts a good 60 seconds and ends round 1 in total control.
RD 2 - Miler could not answer the bell for round 2. - Huff rd 1 tko (miller could not answer bell for rd 2)

Adam Sepulveda vs Huey Contraras

RD 1 - Adam connects first with a high kick to the head and then tries 2 more which miss. Adam closes the distance and lands a couple strikes to the head, clinches and also connects with a few knees to the body. Huey tries to return a few shots but is forced to block Adam's barrage of strikes and knees from the clinch. They continue fighting from the clinch with Adam connecting more than Huey, Adam pushes Dewey away and tries for another high kick which is missed so he rushes in for the clinch again and starts swinging. This time Dewey is more prepared and starts firing off a few shots of his own that connect to the head and then throws a couple knees to the body. Both fighters start swinging wild and it appears that Adam is caught by a finger to the eye and the ref calls a time out.. The ref then has the doc take a look at the eye the scratch was under the eye but due to a knee to the face Adam was having a hard time seeing and it is decided Adam can not go on. - Contraras rd 1 tko (Adam could not continue)

Derrik Mollett vs Ralph Frasurer

RD 1 - Ralph swings and misses, Derrick shoots and gets the takedown. Derrick immediately takes side control and starts pounding in shots to the head and body. Ralph tries to roll and get back to his feet but Derrick just forces him to his back again and continues raining in shots. From the ground these fighters are really working, Ralph is non stop trying to escape and Derrick hammers in shots every chance he gets. After a short lull on the ground the ref decides to put the fighters back on their feet, this time its Derrick who shoots and Ralph catching him in a guillotine choke then falling to his back to sink it in. The fighters roll into the ropes and the ref is forced to bring them back center ring and restart them on the ground. Derrick breaks free of the choke and starts back in with the GROUNDNPOUND and finishes rd 1 in control of the fight
RD 2 - Both fighters look recharged and ready to go, Derrick swings and misses, Ralph shoots and the fighters start wrestling for control, they end up on the mat with Ralph having a guillotine choke locked in. Derrick pulls free just long enough to reverse the position and put Ralph on his back but he lands back into a choke, Derrick starts pounding in body shots and then pulls free of the choke and keeps bringing solid body shots to Ralph who is still on his back. Derrick keeps landing shots from time to time but they are slowing down a bit so the ref stands the fighters once more. Derrick shots but gets caught in another choke, as Ralph starts to drop to his back Derrick's head comes out and he is now in control on the ground landing body shots and ends rd 2 on top
RD 3 - UFO's ascend on the event and 3 large aliens appear in the doorway..... No wait I was day dreaming again. The fighters meet center ring and start to jab a bit. Derrick shoots again and this time takes Ralph down with a heel trip. Derrick starts back in with the GROUNDNPOUND and is catching Ralph with some shots to the head and body. as the round ticks by the fighters start to tire a little and the ref stands them back up to restart the action. Ralph swings and connects and derrick shoots once more sending the fighters to the mat just in time for the bell to sound and send the fight to the judges. - Mollett rd 3 UD

Jay Page vs Anthony Terry

RD 1 - NOW IT WAS TIME TO SEE OLD MAN POWER IN ACTION (Jay Page is so old he still remembers acting in a play as a kid when some idiot came up behind the president and shot him)
The bell rings and as the fighters meet center ring Jay hits a double leg take down and dumps Terry to his back. Terry then starts to roll to get free but just succeeds in giving up his back to Jay "older than dirt" Page. Jay then sinks in the RNC and rolls to his back to finish getting his hooks in. From there its just seconds before Terry is forced to tap or nap. - Page rd 1 sub (Who is next on the Laughin Assassin's hit list)

Billy Ayash vs Tim Slone

RD 1 - I've been a big fan of Billy since I saw his first fight in KFC 4 and I was excited to see him returning to the ring!
Billy starts in with leg kicks trying to set up that KO punch, Tim is backing up and when he meets the corner Billy rushes in with a flurry of strikes. Tim tries pushing off and catches Billy with a low blow but its not seen by the ref so they keep on fighting. Billy comes back from the low blow and is relentless with strikes to the head and knees to the body, Tim seems to be taking the shots though and keeps his cool and is ready to start giving back some of what he has been receiving. Billy throws a leg kick and misses, Tim returns the leg kick and misses also, Billy then comes in with a 1-2 combo and #2 sends Tim to his back hard. Billy is on him before he can hit the ground and is slamming in shots to the head causing the ref to step in and stop the fight due to KO - Ayash rd 1 ko

Josh Stepp vs Jason Wolf

RD 1 - Josh connects with 2 looping rights and Jason shoots and takes him down Josh tries to reverse the position but its Jason ending up in side control landing knees to the ribs. Josh continues to work for a sweep or reversal but Jason is staying in control landing knees to the body as well as hammering in some body strikes on the other side with his fist. As they fight on the ground they work themselves into the ropes and separate, the ref stands the fighters and restarts the action. Josh shoots and takes Jason down to the mat and between the ropes to the judges table, the crowd is on their feet screaming for more and the ref gets the fighters back standing and restarts the action once more. This time Jason shoots but Josh counters and throws him to his back against the ropes so the ref moves them center ring and continues the action on the ground. In just seconds from the restart Josh uses a forearm choke from side mount and gets the win due to sub. - Stepp rd 1 sub

Brendon Bohannon vs Joe Rose

RD 1 - THE PINK RASHGUARD WAS IN THE HOUSE!!!! (with shorts to match) I for one would not want to tell my friends I got beat by a guy wearing pink HAHA
Brendon starts it of with a leg kick which misses and then follows up with a few jabs. Joe comes charging in with guns blazing and connects with a few shots to the head and sending the fighters into a clinch. Joe connects with a couple knees and Brendon is working for what looks like a hip toss but then jumps up into a standing guard. Joe fights it off but the fighters stay clinched, Joe is still landing knees to the body and Brendon is still working to gain control of the clinch. Joe pushes away and backs out of the clinch and they are ready to continue with the standup game. Brendon tries a side kick but Joe backs out of the way, Joe then comes in swinging and gives Brendon the chance he was looking for. Brendon clinches, and then pulls guard dropping to his back and bringing Joe with him. Brendon ties up Joe's hands and arms and is using a high guard looking for an arm bar or maybe a triangle. Joe tries to stand up and that gives Brendon the chance to fully lock a triangle choke. Joe picks him up and slams him to the mat but all that is accomplished is Brendon sinks in his hold that much more. Joe is trying to free himself but Brendon locks on a front arm bar / triangle combo, its easy to see the pain on Joe's face as he taps before it snaps! - Bohannon rd 1 sub

Sammy Spencer vs John Cook

RD 1 - Both fighters come out swinging and connecting with a few shots here and there. S9ammy is the first to connect with a real solid shot and sends John to the ropes. Sammy comes in swinging hard connecting to the head and body and causes John to clinch to stop the barrage of strikes. From the clinch Sammy hits a few knees to the body and a looping right that breaks the clinch. Sammy keeps coming forward connecting with a few shots but then John clinches and takes Sammy down and lands in side control. John has top control but is not doing much with it, he drops a couple shots to the head but is not as active as he needs to be if he wants it to stay on the ground. The ref stands the fighters and restarts the action. The fighters clinch once more and its Sammy bringing the knees to the body as well as some strikes to the head, the fighters push off but re clinch pretty quick and Sammy continues to to punish John. Sammy pushes off from the clinch once more and connects with a looping shot that almost causes John to say no more but he sucks it up and keeps bringing it to Sammy like a warrior. The fighters clinch again and Sammy lands a solid knee to the head and the bell sounds ending an action packed first round.
RD 2 - Sammy comes in with a leg kick and John connects with a staggering right that rocks Sammy, John smells the blood and charges in swinging and connects with a few more shots before the fighters end up in another clinch. Sammy starts in with the knees again and John pushes off to break the clinch and get away from those knees. They clinch again and this time John has a waist lock and throws Sammy to the mat ending up in his half guard. From the bottom Sammy bucks and pushes John off of him and he jumps back to his feet bringing the fight back to the standing position. Both fighters are looking a little gassed but its Sammy who keeps moving forward and bringing the fight to John. John is walking around with his hands down due to fatigue and Sammy keeps landing shots at will, the crowd is on their feet and roaring for more action and a KO. Sammy then lands a shot that puts John on the ropes and Sammy comes in and drops about 4 more bombs before Sammy backs up and tells the ref he has had enough!- Cook rd 2 tko

Jason Coomer vs Bryan Bolling

RD 1 -Coomer comes charging out of the corner connects with an awesome high roundhouse kick that sends Bryan to the mat hard. Coomer is on him in a second hammering in shots like there is no tomorrow. Coomer then grabs full mount and continues with a tremendous display of GROUNDNPOUND action causing the ref to stop the fight just seconds after it started.- Coomer rd 1 tko stoppage

Shane Stallard vs Scott Collins

RD 1 - I have to apologize to both these fighters. This was not part of the original card and I missed taping it and was not prepared to write it up. What I do remember was a fast action packed fight ending quickly with Collins getting the win. I do have a few pictures but that's all, sorry. - Collins rd 1 sub
